evaporite

Evaporites are water-soluble minerals that are deposited after the evaporation of a body of water. Evaporite minerals include halite (salt), gypsum, and calcite. Evaporites are often split into two categories: marine and non-marine. Additionally, there are different classes of evaporite minerals based on their chemical composition. These classes are chlorides, sulfates, carbonates, halides, nitrates, and borates.
