Palmer Divide

The Palmer Divide is the transitional ridge that separates the Arkansas basin from the South Platte basin. The ridge is about 80 miles long and stretches from the Front Range of the Rockies in central Colorado towards Limon, Colorado. This uplifted area experiences slightly different weather patterns than the surrounding areas. Although the elevation of the Palmer Divide qualifies it to be included in the foothills category, it lies perpendicular, rather than parallel to the mountains.
