SP-04 Geology of Ground Water Resources in Colorado: An Introduction

Occurrence, quality and movement of ground water. Includes outline of resources in seven regions, stratigraphic chart showing water-bearing formations, and extensive bibliography.

This report describes, in summary form, the ground-water resources of Colorado. Its purpose is to give a nontechnical presentation of factual information about the hydrogeological conditions of Colorado. The ground-water resources of Colorado are discussed and presented in maps and tables in relation to water quantity, quality, and distribution as related to the various geographic regions of the State. Due to over appropriation of surface-water supplies and rapid urban growth in many areas of Colorado which do not have adequate surface water supplies, more and more usage is being made of ground-water in the state. Thus, Colorado’s ground-water resources are becoming increasingly important with their development continuing at a fast pace.
