Where coal mine subsidence was once a low-impact for ranchers and miners, the increase in the state’s population has increased development pressure on significant areas of subsidence-prone ground. It is now a land-use consideration requiring the attention and expertise of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of geologists, engineers, architects and planners. This 1985 conference was convened to share professional experience and knowledge surrounding the various aspects of the mine subsidence problem as well as to improve cross-disciplinary communication and cooperation among the attendees.
